Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, according to the Ukrainian head of state's Telegram channel.

According to Zelenskyy, he held a phone call with Patriarch Bartholomew at Chișinău Airport while traveling to the G7 summit.

"I am grateful to His All-Holiness for his support and his absolutely clear moral position: Russian drone strikes on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra — a shrine not only of Ukraine but of Orthodoxy as a whole — are an act of barbarism for which there can be no justification," the president emphasized.

They also discussed possible formats for an in-person meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch.

"I invited His All-Holiness to visit Ukraine. Thank you for your prayers for Ukraine and our people," Zelenskyy noted.

Strike on the Lavra

On the night of June 15, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine.

Kyiv was the enemy's primary target, with the occupiers firing a large number of ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, and drones at the capital.

One of the Russian drones struck the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire to break out.

Following the attack, the Lavra was closed to visitors.

More details on how the world is reacting to this barbaric Russian attack can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
