German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expects the Bundestag to approve €3 billion in aid to Ukraine before the early election, scheduled for February 23, DW reports.

She expressed hope that the budget committee will finalize the decision on new funding for Ukraine next week.

"We see that the Russian President disregards the fact that we are in the middle of an election campaign and have an early election," the Minister emphasized.

Baerbock previously criticized the German government for hesitating on aid to Ukraine.

"Even now, during the election campaign, some prioritize national perspectives or how to quickly gain votes for parliamentary elections rather than taking real responsibility for securing peace and freedom in Europe," she noted.

As DW reports, there is no disagreement in the Bundestag about the need to allocate new funds for Ukraine. However, the parties remain divided on where the money should come from.

Scholz opposes aid before elections

Earlier, Der Spiegel reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is against allocating €3 billion in aid to Ukraine before the early election.

According to the agency, the German leader does not want to force the future government to make this decision.
