Azerbaijan continues to move away from Russia, tightening restrictions on Russian citizens. These steps reflect a change in the country's foreign policy, Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security (SPRAVDI) reports.

"Baku is moving away from terrorist Russia and the boorish policy of dictator Putin (referring to Russian leader Vladimir Putin - ed.)," the center emphasized.

SPRAVDI noted that the closure of the "Russian house" in the Azerbaijani capital was another step by its President Ilham Aliyev in response to the lack of normal, not hybrid, apologies from Putin after the crash of the Baku-Grozny flight.

At the same time, the center noted that these days Azerbaijan:

  • defiantly released the scandalous Russian judge Yelena Khakhaleva, who had been previously detained in Baku at Moscow's request;
  • announced a restriction on the stay of Russian citizens for no more than 90 days during the year;
  • President Aliyev's official website posted a message about providing Ukraine with electrical equipment manufactured in Azerbaijan.

"As we can see, it is not the fictitious "Ukrainian crimes" but the very real Russian ones that have already led to Baku's moving away from Moscow," SPRAVDI noted.

The plane crash in Kazakhstan

On December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Russia must admit guilt, punish the perpetrators, and pay compensation.
