Avoid overeating: Coach shares technique to quickly relieve stress
During stress, people often have a strong desire to eat to ease this state. However, there is a way to alleviate this without food, according to Ukrainian celebrity coach Anita Lutsenko.
Lemon technique
According to the expert, wanting to eat during stress is normal. This is how people try to relieve stress because they know it works.
When you start eating, you switch your nervous system to relaxation and calm. However, you can achieve this without food.
In moments of emotional tension and loss of control, try the lemon technique:
- Sit comfortably, place your hands on your knees with palms facing up, and close your eyes.
- Imagine a lemon in your right hand.
- Slowly begin to squeeze it, imagining all the juice being extracted.
- Once the lemon is fully squeezed, relax your hand.
- Repeat the same with your left hand.
In stressful situations, it's important to remove temptation from sight, such as candy, cookies, chocolates, and other snacks. Hide them in less accessible places, like high cabinets that require a step stool to reach.
Here's an alternative to stress eating:
- Physical exercise: It helps release a range of beneficial hormones, which will definitely tone the body.
- Creativity and music: Distract yourself from the urge to eat excessively through activities like drawing, dancing, or listening to favorite songs.
- Socializing: Spend more time with others and friends (this will also help distract).
- Meditation and yoga: These can help control emotions and stabilize mental processes in the brain.
- Drinking plenty of water: Filling the stomach with water sends signals to the brain that the body has received its usual food intake, making it easier to resist the urge to eat something unnecessary.
