In winter, when the market offers fewer fresh vegetables and fruits, it's important to strengthen your diet with foods that support the immune system and provide essential nutrients, Ukrainian nutritionist Kateryna Krupkina explained.

Healthy foods for winter

She recommends paying attention to foods rich in vitamins and minerals:

  • Herring is a source of vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory effects
  • Pumpkin seeds contain zinc, magnesium, and non-heme iron that help support immunity
  • Root vegetables, especially carrots, are rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A
  • Frozen berries retain antioxidants and vitamin C, supporting the body's defenses
  • Kiwi contains fiber and a sufficient amount of vitamin C

Krupkina adds that frozen vegetables and berries are just as nutritious as fresh ones, since they are harvested in season and quickly frozen.

"If you don't want to buy plastic-like vegetables, you can choose frozen ones, as most nutrients are preserved," the expert emphasizes.
