Austria to treat two critically ill children from Okhmatdyt
Austria has taken in two seriously ill children from the Kyiv hospital Okhmatdyt, which was struck by a missile attack from Russia on July 8, announces Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
He noted that following the devastating attack on the Ukrainian children's hospital, Austria immediately offered assistance.
Through collaboration between the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of the Interior, the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), and Ukrainian authorities, it was possible to transport the two critically ill children to Austria for continued treatment.
In turn, Ukraine's Ambassador to Austria, Vasyl Khymynets, thanked Nehammer for his involvement in aiding Ukrainian children and confirmed that the assistance was offered immediately.
"The federal government's help was offered without delay. The Ukrainian child patients are already receiving treatment in Austrian clinics. An exemplary gesture!" wrote the Ukrainian diplomat on the social media platform X.
Earlier, Kronen Zeitung reported that 12-year-old Vladyslav and 13-year-old Yurii were brought to Austria for treatment. Both children have cancer. They are currently undergoing chemotherapy at hospitals in Graz and Salzburg.
Additionally, Germany has pledged 10 million euros for the reconstruction of the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv. The funds will be used to quickly return the facility to operational status and prepare the building for winter conditions.
It was also reported that the Latvian government has decided to allocate 100 million euros to support Ukrainian hospitals during the war. This aid can be used for the reconstruction of medical facilities, equipping them with medical equipment, ensuring their operation, and treating patients.
