Austria advocates for depriving Hungary of voting rights in EU
Austria supported Belgium's call to continue the procedure of depriving Hungary of its voting rights, marking another sign of Budapest's frustration ahead of its six-month presidency of the EU Council starting in July, reports Politico.
"We expect all 27 members to fully uphold the principles on which our common Union is based," stated Viktor Orbánned, a representative of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He noted that this is particularly relevant for the upcoming EU presidency.
"With this in mind, we support the rigorous continuation of the Article 7 procedure against Hungary," emphasized Orbánned.
Previously, Belgium proposed that the member countries of the European Union deprive Hungary of its voting rights in the EU. Brussels wants to apply the procedure of expressing no confidence against Budapest under Article 7 of the Treaty on the European Union.
