Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the broadcasting of Russian television channels in Armenia may cease if they do not comply with Yerevan's official demands.

According to him, Yerevan expects broadcasts from Russian television channels to treat Armenian citizens and the state order in the country with respect.

"Given the friendly relations between our countries, we are prepared to ask once, twice, three, four, five, six, seven times, then to demand once, twice, three, four, five, six, seven times," Pashinyan said.

He added that if this demand is ignored even after the seventh time, the country's leadership will have no choice but to cease broadcasting Russian television channels in Armenia.

Background

Relations between Armenia and Russia sharply deteriorated after Azerbaijan's military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Prime Minister Pashinyan has repeatedly made critical statements about the leadership of the Russian Federation.

At the close of last year, the Armenian regulator took the step of temporarily suspending the activities of the company TOSPA, which rebroadcasts the program Sputnik Armenia, due to alleged violations of broadcasting regulations.

It was recently announced that the programs authored by Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov will no longer be broadcast in Armenia.
