Armenia's PM Pashinyan announces government resignation

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has resigned along with his government following the start of the first session of the newly elected parliament, the National Assembly, according to Pashinyan's statement.
Pashinyan announced the start of the work of Armenia's ninth National Assembly, which, under the country's Constitution, requires the government to resign.
The prime minister said he was preparing to sign the relevant resignation statement and submit it to the country's president.
Under the procedure, once the government's resignation is accepted, the head of state must appoint a new prime minister nominated by the parliamentary majority. This is expected to happen today.
Since Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won the June 7 parliamentary election and secured a majority in the National Assembly, Pashinyan is highly likely to head the government again.
Armenia's parliamentary election
Armenia held parliamentary elections in June. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party defeated the opposition by a wide margin. However, the opposition did not recognize the results.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine analyzed how the Kremlin launched a campaign of hybrid pressure against Pashinyan ahead of the election, ranging from a ban on imports of Armenian brandy and vegetables to threats to triple gas prices.
