Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed that Azerbaijan sign a non-aggression pact, News.am reports.

In a speech dedicated to the Army Day, Pashinyan proposed that Azerbaijan sign a non-aggression pact if the process of signing a peace treaty is delayed.

"We offered Azerbaijan to introduce a mechanism of mutual arms control. It was also proposed to sign a non-aggression pact if it turns out that the signing of the peace treaty will take longer than expected," Pashinyan said.

He also noted that Armenia is committed to the peace agenda and will not deviate from it.

Peace treaty between the countries

On September 19 this year, Azerbaijan announced the launch of "local anti-terrorist measures" in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani army launched an operation in the region.

Armenia refused to deploy its army to the region. The head of the Armenian government recognized the area of Azerbaijan as 86,600 square kilometers, including Nagorno-Karabakh.

However, a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has not yet been concluded.

On January 1, 2024, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic officially ceased to exist.

Earlier this month, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the basic conditions for a peace agreement with Armenia had already been created.
