If on Monday morning you felt like your head was heavier than your workload, don’t rush to blame it on a tough start to the week. The Sun is continuing its aggressive cycle, and after a brief lull, a new geomagnetic storm is on the way.

SWPC NOAA reports when to expect the strongest impacts and how to help your body adapt to space weather.

From April 20 to 25, Earth will be at the center of another wave of solar activity that will not only change the color of meteorological charts but also seriously test our well-being.

Calendar of red days

This time, solar activity will come in waves, gradually exhausting the body.

April 20–21 (Monday–Tuesday)

Residual echo of the previous storm. Although the peak has passed, the magnetosphere remains unstable (K-index 4). This is a tricky period: there may be no physical pain, but irritability, mood swings, and unexplained anxiety may appear.

April 22–23 (Wednesday–Thursday)

A new surge. The magnetic storm will intensify again to a red level (5 points). This is a critical time for people with hypertension and chronic migraines. Blood pressure spikes and strong pulsation in the temples are possible.

April 24–25 (Friday–Saturday)

Gradual recovery. The storm will begin to subside but leave behind a trail of weakness. Joint pain and severe drowsiness may occur as the body tries to restore its resources.

What is a magnetic storm

A magnetic storm is essentially a “cosmic wind” hitting Earth’s protective shield. When powerful solar flares occur, a cloud of charged particles rushes toward Earth. The interaction of this поток with the planet’s magnetic field causes disturbances in the atmosphere.

This can lead to:

  • Noticeable fluctuations in the geomagnetic background
  • Disruptions in navigation systems and communications
  • Auroras appearing in unusual locations

For humans, this means changes in blood viscosity. When the magnetic field fluctuates, capillaries constrict, circulation slows down, and tissues receive less oxygen. This is why we feel a heavy head and fatigue.

How magnetic storms affect people

Solar activity tends to hit the body’s weak spots. For some, it’s the heart; for others, the nervous system or old injuries.

Common symptoms:

  • Sudden migraine attacks that are hard to relieve
  • Fluctuating blood pressure
  • Body aches and pain in areas of past fractures
  • Insomnia at night and strong daytime sleepiness
  • Reduced concentration

Who is at risk

  • Weather-sensitive individuals
  • People with cardiovascular diseases
  • Elderly people and pregnant women
  • Those experiencing chronic fatigue or constant stress

Survival plan: how to cope

To avoid being knocked off your routine, switch to an “energy-saving mode”:

Hydration instead of coffee. Coffee constricts blood vessels even more. Replace it with water or herbal teas (chamomile, rosehip) to improve circulation.

Light meals. The body struggles to digest heavy and spicy food during magnetic disturbances. Choose vegetables and light proteins.

Contrast shower. A good workout for blood vessels that helps maintain tone. Keep temperature differences comfortable, not extreme.

Less screen time. Smartphones and laptops add extra strain to the nervous system. In the evening, opt for a book or a short walk.

More oxygen. Ventilate rooms several times a day. Lack of fresh air during a storm can significantly worsen headaches.
