Apple is planning to announce a new iPhone SE this week, and the device is likely to get a full-screen design with Face ID instead of the Touch ID home button. This means that for the first time since the release of the original iPhone, the company will stop releasing new models with the Home button, reports MacRumors.

The Home button made its debut in 2007, and in 2012, with the release of the iPhone 5s, it received support for the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Apple began to gradually abandon it after the introduction of Face ID in the iPhone X in 2017.

The new iPhone SE is expected to have a combination of iPhone 14 and iPhone 16 features. Rumored specifications include a 6.1-inch OLED display, a USB-C port, a single 48-megapixel primary camera, and the first 5G modem developed by Apple.

It is also reported that the device will be equipped with an A18 chip and 8 GB of RAM, which will allow it to support Apple Intelligence functions.

The current iPhone SE resembles the iPhone 8 and has outdated elements such as the home button, Lightning connector, and thick bezels around the screen.
