Apple releases iOS 17.6 with bugs fixed and new feature
While many of us are waiting for the release of iOS 18 in a few weeks, Apple reminds us that it still pays attention to iOS 17. The latest release, iOS 17.6, may be the last major update before iOS 18, according to Forbes.
Which iPhones can run iOS 17.6
iPhones capable of running iOS 17 were released from 2018 onwards: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. All subsequent iPhone models are also compatible. This includes the iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, and iPhone 15 series. The iPhone SE of the second and third generations is also supported.
How to update to iOS 17.6
If you forgot how to update iOS after the release of iOS 17.5.1, here's how to do it: open the Settings app, tap General, then Software Update. Here you can choose to immediately download the new software, which usually means it will appear on your iPhone sooner.
Select Download and Install, and it will be ready soon.
What's new in the update
This update mainly focuses on bug fixes - over two dozen in total: "This update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users."
The new update also introduces a Catch Up feature for Apple TV, designed for sports fans.
It is intended for live streaming of sports events in the MLS Season Pass. The feature was announced in June, and it means that if you join a live broadcast of a game that has already started, you can see a series of highlights from the beginning of the game.
The highlight carousel is available during the game and in the video player control menu afterward.
If one new feature seems sparse, it's because Apple has already implemented everything promised in iOS 17.
Unless iOS 17.7 is released, which we will find out in a few days when the first developer beta is released, all efforts are now focused on iOS 18.
