Apple is preparing a major software update that will change the interface of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The company aims to adapt its devices for the new generation of users, Bloomberg informs.

According to Bloomberg sources, the update, set to take place at the end of this year, will radically change the appearance of the operating systems. The update will also make Apple’s various software platforms more uniform. Changes will include updates to the style of icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.

The company is working on simplifying navigation and device management for users, the sources revealed. According to them, the design is partly based on the software of the Vision Pro.

Apple is betting that the groundbreaking new interface could help stimulate demand. This comes as the company’s revenue slowed down following a surge in technology spending during the pandemic, with growth now gradually recovering. Sales of Apple’s iPhones – its largest source of income – unexpectedly dropped during the last holiday season.

The changes will be included in iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, with the Luck codename, and macOS 16, called Cheer.

"They go well beyond a new design language and aesthetic tweaks. The software will mark the most significant upgrade to the Mac since the Big Sur operating system in 2020. For the iPhone, it will be the biggest revamp since iOS 7 in 2013," the report states.

Earlier, we wrote that Apple is working on an AirPods version with built-in cameras. While this technology is unlikely to appear in the AirPods Pro 3, which may be released this year, the company is actively developing it.
