Apple prepares unexpected 2025 hit: New gadget revealed
Since its release in April 2021, Apple's AirTag tracker has become a real hit. This year, Apple will release AirTag 2, the first update to the device, which could be a subtle but big success for the company, reports 9to5Mac.
What to expect from AirTag 2
Key changes that will appear in the new generation of the tracker:
- Improved Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip
- Increased range of operation
- New design that will make it harder to remove the speaker
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg, AirTag 2 is expected to be released this year.
The most anticipated improvement is the refinement of the Precision Finding feature. This feature allows you to find a lost AirTag using a combination of Bluetooth and an ultra-wideband (UWB) chip. However, it currently works only in ideal conditions and at a limited distance.
According to Bloomberg, the range of Precision Finding will triple in AirTag 2. Now this function works at a distance of 10 to 30 meters, and in the new version, it will operate at 30-90 meters. This became possible thanks to the updated UWB chip, which is already used in the iPhone 15.
Why is it important
Currently, the easiest way to find a lost item is to turn on the sound on the AirTag. However, the sound only helps to determine the general route. Improved Precision Finding will allow you to accurately locate an object even at a greater distance. This will significantly improve usability and make AirTag 2 an even more popular device.
