Apple is preparing an update for one of its most popular laptops, the MacBook Air. In 2025, we will see interesting transformations, reports MacRumors.

Expected new features

The new MacBook Air models are likely to be equipped with the already released Apple M4 chip, which has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.

Apple has already updated its MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini with M4 a few months ago. According to Geekbench 6 tests, the new M4 chip provides up to a 25 percent increase in multitasking performance compared to the M3. Improved energy efficiency should also increase the battery life of the MacBook Air.

In addition, Apple recently increased the minimum amount of RAM in all basic MacBook Air configurations from 8 GB to 16 GB, so the new 2025 models are likely to have the same amount of RAM.

The last redesign of the MacBook Air took place in 2022, and so far, no major changes in the appearance of the new models are expected.

Features that are likely to appear

Following the lead of the MacBook Pro, the new MacBook Air is likely to feature an updated 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage, a feature that automatically keeps the user in the center of the frame during video calls. The camera is also likely to support Desk View, allowing you to display a view of your desktop from above.

Previously, Center Stage was only available on new iPads and Macs connected to Apple Studio Display. Now, MacBook Pro and iMac are the first Apple computers to support this feature without the need to connect an external monitor.

It is also expected that the new MacBook Air will receive three Thunderbolt 4 ports instead of the current two Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well as the ability to connect two external displays even when the laptop lid is open.

Possible features

The latest MacBook Pro and iMac models can be ordered with a nano-textured display that diffuses light and reduces glare on the screen. Apple may offer the same option for the MacBook Air unless it decides to keep it exclusive to the MacBook Pro.

Release dates

Last month, Apple released macOS Sequoia 15.2 and inadvertently confirmed that new MacBook Air models will be released this year.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new MacBook Air will be presented earlier than other devices expected this spring, such as the iPhone SE 4.

Most likely, the announcement will take place via a press release in the Apple Newsroom between January and March, while other new products may be presented at Apple's spring event in March or April.

Thus, Apple plans to quickly close the issue with the MacBook Air update to focus on larger releases.
