Apple's MacBook Air: Is it worth buying now or waiting for new model

Apple continues to delight its fans with its stylish and powerful laptops, but choosing the right time to buy often becomes a problem. On the one hand, current MacBook Air models offer great features and discounts. On the other hand, rumors of a new version that promises even more features are already on the horizon, reports 9to5Mac.
M1 or higher
The first model is the oldest MacBook Air still on sale. We're talking about the MacBook Air on the M1 chip, which is currently available for around $699.
If you are planning to buy a MacBook Air that is older than this model, make sure that its price is significantly lower than $699. This is because older models run on Intel chips, not Apple Silicon, which significantly affects performance and functionality.
M2, if the base model
If your budget allows, you should seriously consider the MacBook Air on the M2 chip, which is currently available for $900. This model has a modern MacBook Air design with MagSafe charging support, a new Midnight black and blue color scheme, and, most importantly, double the RAM.
Apple increased the base RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB last fall, which was likely done to better support future Apple Intelligence features.
Why you should wait for M4
If the difference in performance between M2 and M3 is important to you, it's better to wait for M4.
If you want to increase the amount of storage or RAM from the basic 256 GB and 16 GB, it's better to wait, too. You're paying Apple for the upgrade anyway, so budget probably won't be an issue. Wait for the M4-based configurations.
If you want a 15-inch MacBook Air, you should also wait. Apple sells such a MacBook Air only with the M3 chip, and the company does not discount its devices, even if they will soon be replaced by new hardware.
