Apple Maps application is available for everyone on Internet
As part of a beta test launched on Wednesday afternoon, you can now get driving and walking directions, as well as view ratings and reviews from the web version of Apple Maps on your desktop or mobile browser, according to The Verge.
Update details
Access to Apple Maps is through the site beta.maps.apple.com. You can perform most functions available in the iOS version of the app, including viewing guides, ordering food directly from Maps, exploring cities, and getting information about various establishments.
Apple reports that additional features, such as Look Around, are planned to be added in the coming months.
The web version of Apple Maps is currently available only in English and is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as with Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. In the future, Apple plans to add support for other languages, browsers, and platforms.
The company notes that all developers using the MapKit JS tool can create links to Maps in the web version.
App development
Since the launch of Apple Maps on the iPhone in 2012, Apple has gradually added new features to the service, including detailed city maps, multi-stop routes, cycling routes, electric vehicle routes, and offline navigation.
Previously, versions of Apple Maps were available on the web thanks to developers who used the API to create maps for sites like DuckDuckGo.
The official appearance of the service in the web version is a significant step forward and could help the app compete with Google Maps, which has been available from web browsers for many years.
