The next two years promise to be especially exciting for iPhone owners. It has been revealed that Apple is developing eight new smartphone models, including the long-awaited iPhone Fold and iPhone 20, according to the specialized resource 9to5Mac.
Apple roadmap: iPhone 17e, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Fold and iPhone 20
According to sources, the iPhone 17e is expected in spring 2026. It will be a step upgrade of the iPhone 16e, featuring Apple’s new C1X modem. The device is rumored to have a glass back panel with magnetic wireless charging support—a feature missing in the iPhone 16e, which currently only supports Qi charging.
In fall 2026, Apple plans to release the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Key features include:
-
Under-display Face ID sensor;
-
Front camera positioned in the upper-left corner of the screen;
-
Mechanical aperture for at least one camera, improving night photography and reducing overexposure in daylight;
-
Design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro;
-
New TSMC chips with memory positioned closer to the processor for better performance;
iPhone Fold: foldable iPhone with 7.7-inch display
The iPhone Fold is also expected in fall 2026. When unfolded, it will have a 7.7-inch screen similar in format to an iPad; folded, the display will measure 5.3 inches. During prototyping, Apple is experiencing a high defect rate for displays, which sources say is normal at this stage. The front camera will be located in the upper-left corner with light and proximity sensors.
iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2
In spring 2027, Apple plans to release the base iPhone 18 as a step upgrade of the previous model, removing tactile feedback and touch controls for the camera.
The iPhone 18e, a budget version with wireless charging like its predecessor, is also expected in spring 2027.
Apple has revised the iPhone Air 2 design due to weak sales of the first model, adding a second camera and lowering the price.
iPhone 20: anniversary model with a fully bezel-less display
The iPhone 20, marking the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, is expected in fall 2027. Bloomberg previously reported a bold design using more glass.
According to sources, the iPhone 20 will feature:
-
Curved glass body on the front, back, and all four edges;
-
Display without a black bezel;
-
A narrow metal strip in the middle replaces the traditional metal frame, housing the buttons;
-
Under-display front camera, making it Apple’s first truly full-screen smartphone without a notch.
Earlier, we reported that Apple removed a popular feature from the iPhone 17 Pro that had been present on all previous models.
