Apple continues work on 6G: Initial results achieved
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg notes that Apple is actively advancing its work on implementing sixth-generation (6G) cellular technology in its devices, writes MacRumors.
In the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman explained that Apple is increasingly focusing on 6G technology despite the known challenges of developing its own 5G modem.
In 2021, the first official job announcements related to 6G appeared at Apple. Now, a new job opening for a Modem Systems Software Architect responsible for coordinating the development and modeling of the 6G reference architecture is posted on the company's official website.
Gurman notes that this announcement is part of Apple's overall trend of hiring engineers to work on 6G cellular technology.
It's also worth mentioning that telecommunication operators are actively working on creating next-generation networks. In late 2020, Apple joined the Next G Alliance, an industry group aimed at addressing challenges in the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS).
According to some analysts, 6G technology could provide speeds more than 100 times faster than 5G. However, the efficiency of this technology in real-world conditions still needs to be determined. It is expected that 6G will not appear on consumer devices before 2030.
