American law enforcement officers have started pushing protesters out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, according to CNN.

Wisconsin state troopers with shields push into the chanting crowd. Many protesters pushed back with their hands on the shields.

Some officers in Madison police uniforms dismantled tents set up on the ground, while others used batons to push protesters back.

The operation began after campus police gave protesters 15 minutes to remove their tents.

What preceded it

On the eve of graduation ceremonies, protests were held in some US educational institutions. The protesters oppose Israel's war in Gaza.

The protests are anti-Semitic, protesters often shout pro-Hamas slogans.
