Cambodia has announced its intention to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. This is not the first country to nominate Trump for the prestigious award, Reuters reports.

Cambodia will nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol confirmed the plan to nominate Trump for the prize.

While speaking earlier to journalists in the capital, Phnom Penh, Chanthol thanked Trump for establishing peace and said he deserves to be nominated for the award - the highest international recognition given to a person or organization believed to have done the most to "advance fellowship between nations."

According to Reuters, it was Trump's call last week that broke the deadlock in efforts to end the fiercest fighting between Thailand and Cambodia in more than a decade, leading to negotiations in Malaysia on Monday.

After the ceasefire was announced, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt posted on X that Trump was responsible for it.

"Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!" Leavitt said.

At least 43 people were reported killed in five days of intense clashes that forced over 300,000 people to flee on both sides of the border.

"We recognize his great efforts for peace," said Chanthol.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister also added that his country is grateful for the 19% reduced tariff rate.

Earlier last month, Pakistan said it would recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in facilitating conflict resolution with India, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also stated last month that he himself had nominated Trump for the award.

Ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia

The conflict between Thailand and Cambodia erupted on July 24, 2025, due to clashes over disputed territory, where both sides resorted to artillery, missile strikes, and air raids.

On July 28 in Kuala Lumpur, under the auspices of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, US President Donald Trump, and Chinese representatives, an unconditional and immediate ceasefire was reached between Thailand and Cambodia.

The ceasefire took effect at midnight and includes the resumption of high-level communication, the establishment of monitoring mechanisms, and a future meeting of military commanders.

President Trump stated that the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia was achieved thanks to his intervention.
