'Angry because hungry': Nutritionist's insights and coping strategies
Everyone at least once in their life heard the phrase: "Angry because you are hungry." A bad mood is often attributed to hunger or exhaustion. Many in such a situation indulge in sweets to increase energy levels, according to nutritionist Vira Kuryn.
Why does this state occur?
According to the expert, once upon a time, if she did not have a snack for just a few hours, she had the following condition:
-
energy dropped sharply, dizziness in the head
-
may even start shaking hands (tremor)
-
emotional state - aggression
-
there is only one desire - to put something in the mouth as soon as possible, and preferably sweet
"Until I found out that this state is not the norm and did not deal with it. Now even if I am hungry, I have not eaten for 4-5-6 hours, I will not have all of the above. There will only be a natural state of hunger and the desire to eat not sweet, but nutritious hearty food," the message reads.
This condition is called hypoglycemia.
A sharp drop in blood sugar level occurs when there has been a sharp rise in blood sugar level (hyperglycemia).
Even if you have a proper diet and don't smoke or drink, you can have insulin resistance. In extreme cases, this condition can lead to type 2 diabetes.
What happens to body
This is what insulin resistance does to the human body:
-
"steals" the energy level
-
increases blood pressure (especially at the age of 40+)
-
does not allow you to lose weight, lose excess weight (depends on the features of the physique)
-
supports systemic chronic inflammation
-
destroys the health of blood vessels (CVD - number 1 in the number of deaths)
-
a complicated course of COVID
-
puts the body in a state of stress
Every person has an individual feeling of hunger and satiety. Therefore, you need to explore your feeling of hunger and prevent negative feelings. For this, you can make small snacks.
Fast carbohydrates quickly enter the bloodstream and sharply increase the level of glucose. After it, insulin is released, which lowers the glucose level.
