The US Embassy in Tehran has urged Americans in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible due to the worsening security situation and widespread travel and communication restrictions, according to an official statement.

In the security warning published by the US virtual embassy in Tehran, citizens were alerted to transport disruptions, road closures, halted public transit, and restricted access to the internet and mobile networks.
Americans are advised to plan their departure without relying on assistance from the US government, as flights are limited or canceled and conditions could change without warning.
The warning also highlighted the high risks for US citizens, including the possibility of detention or questioning by Iranian authorities. Tehran does not recognize dual citizenship, so individuals holding both Iranian and American passports may be treated solely as Iranian citizens, which greatly limits the US government’s ability to provide consular assistance.
The embassy advised considering departure via land borders with neighboring countries, such as Armenia or Turkey, if safe, and avoiding travel to Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan, where conditions remain uncertain.
The statement also emphasized that the US government cannot guarantee the safety of its citizens during departure, and the decision to leave must be made by the individual, taking current risks into account.
This new warning comes amid ongoing protests and tensions in Iran, along with travel and communication restrictions, and significant political and security challenges in the region.
Escalation between Iran and the US
The US and Iran have agreed to hold talks in Muscat, Oman, on Friday, February 6. The discussions aim to avoid a military confrontation.
The talks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The US is increasing its military presence in the region following threats from President Donald Trump of a possible strike on Iran, while Tehran fears that any military action could destabilize the situation inside the country.
The US has sent an additional warship to the Middle East due to the heightened tensions with Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran has stated it is ready to deliver a crushing response to any aggressive actions, reflecting the high level of tension in the region.
