Americans favor Democrats ahead of election, New York Times poll finds

Even some Republicans no longer believe in the success of US President Donald Trump’s economic policies. Meanwhile, Democrats have gained an advantage on key issues ahead of the November midterm elections, according to a poll conducted by The New York Times.
Democrats pull ahead of Republicans
According to the New York Times/Siena poll, the Democratic Party has gained a significant advantage a month and a half before the US congressional midterm elections.
The shift comes as voter confidence in Trump declines amid economic concerns and the rising cost of living.
Key findings from the poll:
- Among registered voters, 51% said they would support Democratic candidates, compared with 43% who would support Republicans;
- Overall approval of the president remains low at 38%;
- At the same time, 71% of voters are dissatisfied with how Trump is handling the rising cost of living.
Democrats are also ahead of Republicans on issues that helped Trump win in 2024:
- the economy — 51% to 45%;
- immigration — 52% to 45%.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Trump’s approval rating edged up after falling to a record low. At the same time, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that the Republican Party’s standing had weakened ahead of the congressional midterm elections.
In addition, Donald Trump’s approval rating stood at 33% in early September. The poll results pointed to growing voter dissatisfaction with his economic policies and the rising cost of living.
