US President Donald Trump flew over the Northwest Stadium in Maryland on his plane during an NFL football game. However, Americans booed him upon his arrival at the game, according to Wral News.
“I’m a little bit late,” the White House chief told reporters as he stepped off Air Force One.
Wral News notes that Trump became the first sitting US president in nearly 50 years to attend a regular-season NFL game, but he was met with boos upon arriving at the stadium.
The president flew over the arena on Air Force One, then rode in an armored vehicle to attend the Washington Commanders’ game against the Detroit Lions, where some fans loudly expressed their disapproval.
Trump sat in the stadium alongside US House Speaker Mike Johnson and was shown on the video board during the first half and the military oath ceremony at halftime. During the broadcast, he spoke about plans to build a new Commanders stadium and the possibility of giving it a new name in his honor.
According to the league, only two other US presidents have attended regular-season NFL games while in office: Richard Nixon in 1969 and Jimmy Carter in 1978. Previously, Trump became the first president to attend a Super Bowl, witnessing the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
