About 20 drones were spotted over the port of Køge in Denmark. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation, The Associated Press reports.

The Danish police are investigating reports of about 20 drones over the port of Køge, located southwest of Copenhagen.

Law enforcement officials said the incident occurred the night before.

The regional police said that when they arrived at the scene, officers could spot four large drones over the pier. According to a witness who called the police, there were about 20 drones in the air, which later disappeared into the Køge Bay at high speed.

Law enforcement officials noted that they are currently trying to establish the exact number of drones and their ownership. They emphasized that no permits for drone flights in the area had been issued at the time of the incident.

Police are also checking whether the incident is related to other drone sightings in the country. The incident is being investigated amid growing security concerns in Europe related to Russian hybrid attacks and the war against Ukraine.

In late November, small UAVs flew over US military bases in the United Kingdom.

Also, at the end of last year, it became known that in December, unidentified drones flew over the Ramstein military base in Germany. Drones were also spotted over the facilities of the defense concern Rheinmetall.

Earlier today, runways were closed at New York Airport because of an unknown drone.
