Unidentified drones spotted over US military base in Germany - Spiegel
In recent weeks, unidentified drones have been flying over the Ramstein military base in Germany. Drones have also been spotted over the facilities of the defense concern Rheinmetall, Spiegel reports.
The agency, citing a confidential report by German security authorities, writes that several drones were spotted over Ramstein in the evening hours of December 3 and 4.
The journalists clarify that despite intensive searches, the drone operators were not found.
Spiegel writes that in recent weeks, drones have also been spotted over the facilities of the defense company Rheinmetall and the chemical giant BASF.
In response to the publication's request, the US Army confirmed that suspicious drones were flying over Ramstein.
“In early December, several small unmanned aerial vehicles were spotted in the area and over Ramstein Air Force Base; they had no impact on the base's residents or the facilities and military equipment located there,” a spokesperson for the military base said.
Unidentified drones over military facilities in Europe
Unidentified drones have repeatedly been flying over military installations in Europe. Russia may be involved.
In particular, a few weeks ago, small unmanned aerial vehicles flew over US military bases in the United Kingdom.
Also in Germany, in early 2024, it was reported that unidentified drones were regularly spotted over military bases where Ukrainian defenders are trained.
