Russia launched one of the largest air attacks since the start of the full-scale war on the night of July 12, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The enemy launched 623 aerial attack assets, including 339 Shahed attack drones and 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles.

In addition, the enemy used hundreds of decoy drones in an attempt to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense system.

The air attack began on the evening of July 11. Launches came from various directions: Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol regions, as well as Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Millerovo.

The Kh-101 missiles were launched from the airspace over Saratov region.

How the attack was repelled

The following forces were involved in repelling the air assault:

  • Aviation;

  • Anti-aircraft missile units;

  • Mobile fire groups;

  • Electronic warfare units (EW);

  • Defense Forces drone systems.

As of 10:00, Ukrainian air defense had shot down 344 aerial targets, including:

  • 319 Shahed-136/131 drones;

  • 25 Kh-101 cruise missiles.

Another 258 decoy drones were suppressed or lost due to electronic warfare.

One missile and 20 Shahed drones hit five different locations. Additionally, debris from downed drones fell in 19 other places.

Attack on Ukraine, July 12

On the night of July 12, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine with at least 10 strikes on Kharkiv.

According to authorities, the enemy used eight attack drones and two guided aerial bombs. One Shahed drone hit critical infrastructure. Two people were injured.

Attacks were also recorded in western regions. In Lviv, a drone destroyed the entrance to a residential building, causing a gas leak. In Lutsk, a private home was completely destroyed, and other buildings were damaged. Emergency crews are still working to eliminate the aftermath of the strikes.
