Russian forces launched a drone attack on Ukraine overnight on April 13, using 55 drones. Most of them were shot down by air defenses, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"During the night of April 13, the enemy launched an attack using 55 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and various types of decoy drones from the directions of Oryol, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk," the statement reads.

How air defense responded

The air attack was repelled by Ukrainian defense forces using aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups.

"As of 8:30 a.m., the downing of 43 Shahed-type strike UAVs (and other types of drones) in the north, south, and center of the country has been confirmed," the military reported.

In addition, 12 enemy decoy drones were lost from radar tracking.

Russian attack on Ukraine

Late in the evening on April 12, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv and several other regions due to the threat of a drone strike.

In particular, during the night of April 13, Russia launched a drone attack on Kyiv, sending around 30 unmanned aerial vehicles toward the Ukrainian capital.

According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, Russia has resumed its regular tactic of using Shahed drones for attacks since the beginning of April. In addition, the occupiers have begun employing a new scheme for strikes on Ukraine.
