According to the Suspilne media, a court has imposed a preventive measure on one of the officials from the State Emergency Service in relation to the case involving the helicopter crash in Brovary. He has been sent into custody for a duration of two months.

The preventive measure has been applied to Ivan Korobka, the head of the Department of Aviation and Aviation Search and Rescue at the State Emergency Service. The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has ordered a two-month detention.

However, Korobka does not agree with the court's decision. He asserts that he acted "in accordance with the official guidelines." He argues that the pilots' expertise allowed for the transport of the leadership, and that the weather conditions were deemed suitable for flight.

The official's legal representatives are planning to file an appeal.

Suspicion falls on State Emergency Service officials

Yesterday, the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) announced that five officials from the State Emergency Service have been named as suspects in the case of the airplane crash in Brovary, which resulted in the loss of lives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs leadership.

The individuals under suspicion are:

  • The head of the Department of Aviation and Aviation Search and Rescue of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine,
  • The acting commander of a unit,
  • The deputy commander responsible for flight training,
  • The commander of an aviation squadron,
  • The head of flight safety at the Special Aviation Unit of the Civil Protection Operational Rescue Service of the State Emergency Service from Nizhyn, Chernihiv Oblast.

According to the investigation, the officials' negligence led to the crash of the EC 225 LP helicopter. Specifically, the DBR believes that the leadership of the State Emergency Service failed to alert the crew about worsening weather conditions.

The State Emergency Service has suspended the officials who are under suspicion.
