AI simulates 2026 World Cup semifinals and reveals finalists

While the four remaining teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup are still preparing for their semifinal matchups, artificial intelligence has already predicted which two nations will battle for the title, according to Opta Analyst.
Whom AI backs
The respected statistics platform Opta Analyst has released the latest projections from its supercomputer. Using advanced mathematical models, detailed player data, and thousands of tournament simulations, the AI calculated each semifinalist's chances of reaching the World Cup final: France, Spain, England, and Argentina.
Projections say fans are likely to see an all-European final, with the defending world champions falling short of another title match.
First semifinal: European heavyweight clash with clear favorite
The opening semifinal pits European rivals France and Spain against each other. Despite the impressive form of Spain throughout the tournament, Opta model gives Didier Deschamps' side a clear edge.
- France: 58% chance of reaching the final
- Spain: 42%
The analysts believe the depth of talent and vast tournament experience of Les Bleus will prove decisive against La Roja. Despite outstanding performances of Spain earlier in the competition, the model predicts its World Cup run will end in the semifinals.
Second semifinal: Too close to call
If the first semifinal has a clear statistical favorite, the clash between England and Argentina is expected to be a thriller decided by the finest of margins.
Opta model gives England only the slightest advantage over the defending champions.
- England: 51%
- Argentina: 49%
The projections suggest Lionel Messi and his teammates will narrowly miss out on defending their World Cup title. Still, with just a two-point gap, Argentina remains well positioned to defy the numbers on the field.

When semifinals will run
The two World Cup semifinal matches will take place over two days.
- July 14 (Tuesday), 10:00 p.m. EEST: France vs. Spain
- July 15 (Wednesday), 10:00 p.m. EEST: England vs. Argentina
The winners will meet in the World Cup final on July 19 at 10:00 p.m. EEST.
Also, earlier reports indicated that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had announced plans for another expansion of the FIFA World Cup.
