Active fighting continues in Kursk region, situation is changing rapidly
Active fighting continues in the Kursk region. As the situation is changing rapidly, we should not jump to conclusions, states Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
“Active fighting continues in the Kursk region. After the Defense Forces partially regained the positions where the Russians had entered, they began to send columns to assault again,” he said.
The military noted that the fighting in this area of the front is dynamic, and maneuvers are taking place, typical for the forested area.
“There are a lot of dynamics, so it is important not to fixate on any conclusions as final. There are heavy battles, the situation is constantly changing, and Russian military commanders are trying to “dry up” the topic because everything is not going their way,” Kovalenko said.
Situation in the Kursk region
The Ukrainian military has been conducting an offensive in the Kursk region for almost two months. In particular, in mid-September, the Ukrainian Armed Forces broke through a new section of the Russian border in the Kursk region - to the west of the government-controlled territories in the direction of the village of Vesele, Glushkovsky district.
According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War, the intensified Russian counterattacks are likely intended to force the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region. This is planned to be done before bad weather conditions in the fall and early winter begin to limit maneuver on the battlefield.
According to US officials, Ukraine will be able to hold territory in the Kursk region for at least several months, if not longer.
