The main sporting event of the four-year cycle, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, has concluded in Italy. Over 16 days in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, athletes from around the world competed for medals, with the final standings confirming the absolute dominance of one nation, according to the final medal table of the Olympic Games 2026.
Absolute Norwegian records
Norway once again confirmed its status as the leading force in winter sports by confidently winning the overall medal standings. The Scandinavians not only finished first but also set a new historic benchmark with 18 gold medals.
This is the best result in the history of the Winter Olympics (the previous record also belonged to Norway — 16 gold medals at the Beijing 2022 Games).
In total, Norway collected 41 medals: 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze, which is also a new record for the Winter Games.
A lasting achievement in a historical context
Norway also firmly leads the all-time standings. The 2026 triumph became the “Vikings’” 11th overall victory at the Winter Olympics.
Representatives of the country won the team standings at the very first Winter Olympic Games in 1924 and have now topped the medal table for the fourth consecutive Games.
This Norwegian record can be considered virtually untouchable, as the closest pursuer — the USSR (seven Winter Olympic victories) — no longer exists, while Germany follows with only three such triumphs.

The Klaebo phenomenon
The main star of the Milan Games was legendary cross-country skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. The Norwegian delivered a remarkable performance, winning every event he entered and collecting six gold medals at these Olympics.
Thanks to this success, Johannes became the most decorated athlete in Winter Olympics history, with a total of 11 gold medals across his career.
Final medal standings
Alongside the leader, strong results were also posted by the teams of the United States and the Netherlands. The host nation, Italy, secured a record number of medals for itself, but this was only enough for fourth place, as it fell behind the Dutch team in silver medals. In an extremely tight race, Germany claimed a spot in the top five.
In total, 29 national teams won medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with 20 of them finishing the Games with at least one gold medal.
Top 10 medal table:
- Norway – 18 gold + 12 silver + 11 bronze = 41 medals
- United States – 12 + 12 + 9 = 33
- Netherlands – 10 + 7 + 3 = 20
- Italy – 10 + 6 + 14 = 30
- Germany – 8 + 10 + 8 = 26
- France – 8 + 9 + 6 = 23
- Sweden – 8 + 6 + 4 = 18
- Switzerland – 6 + 9 + 8 = 23
- Austria – 5 + 8 + 5 = 18
- Japan – 5 + 7 + 12 = 24

Medal-less Games for Ukraine
For the Ukrainian team, these Games ended without any medals. A total of 46 athletes represented the blue-and-yellow flag across 11 sports, but none managed to reach the podium.
This marks only the third time in Ukraine’s history that the national team has returned from a Winter Olympics without medals. Similar results were recorded in 2002 in Salt Lake City and in 2010 in Vancouver.
Ukraine’s best achievements in Italy were top-10 finishes in freestyle skiing, biathlon, and luge.
