Blockade of Polish border: Around 20 drivers willing to evacuate
About 20 drivers stuck on the border of Poland and Ukraine due to the strike of Polish carriers have expressed their desire to be evacuated, stated the Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach.
"Yesterday we announced the possibility of taking some drivers to Ukraine. As of today, there are about 20 drivers who have agreed and written that they want to go to Ukraine for a certain period of time," the deputy minister said.
According to Derkach, drivers who wish to evacuate will be helped to cross the border in both directions.
How will drivers be evacuated?
"When we talk about the return of drivers, we are also talking about the legal component. We pick you up, we bring you back, it's definitely in the legal plane that you have to cross the border into Ukraine and back to the truck. This issue is definitely something we have to resolve legally," Derkach said.
According to the deputy minister, the issue of the legal component has already been discussed with the State Border Guard Service.
"They (the State Border Guard Service - ed.) also want to help and understand the conditions you are in. This is actually their decision to grant permission to cross the border," added Derkach.
We would like to add that in order to evacuate, you need to fill out the appropriate form here.
Blocking of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine
On November 6, Polish carriers went on strike, which they claim will last until January 2024. After that, they blocked three checkpoints, including:
- Yagodyn-Dorogusk;
- Krakovets-Korcheva;
- Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne.
The carriers put forward a number of demands, which can be found in the RBC-Ukraine article.
In particular, they threatened to block the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, but as of November 20, there was no official confirmation of the blockade.
Since the beginning of the blockade, two Ukrainian drivers have died on the border of Ukraine and Poland.
