White House President Donald Trump has announced his readiness to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping after the recent increase in duties against China to 125%, according to CNN.

"Oh sure, he’s a friend of mine. I like him. Sure, I’d meet with him," Trump said, answering a journalist's question about his willingness to negotiate or meet with the Chinese leader.

In particular, during a conversation with journalists at the White House, Trump said that he believes that "China wants to make a deal".

"Everybody wants to make a deal, actually. We want to do what’s right for our country, we also want to do what’s right for the world," he added.

On April 9, the US President announced that he would reduce the recently imposed duties for several countries and announced an immediate increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%.

Before that, tariffs of 104% had been imposed on Chinese goods imported into the United States. As a result, China increased duties on American goods from 34% to 84%. Then the figure rose to a mirror 104%.

The European Union, in turn, approved duties on goods from the United States worth about 21 billion euros ($23.04 billion).
