There are many places in the world where you can test yourself. These are the locations that make you hold your breath with delight and fear, and keenly feel the beauty of life and the fragility of every moment.

RBC-Ukraine has collected the most extreme travel destinations where every step is filled with adrenaline and danger.

Death Valley National Park, USA

Death Valley National Park, located in California, fully lives up to its name. It is one of the hottest places on Earth, where the temperature can reach +50 °C in summer and the record is +57 °C.

Every year, up to 10 tourists die here due to the harsh climate, making Death Valley a popular but also dangerous destination for extreme sports. Additional threats include venomous animals such as rattlesnakes, black widows, and scorpions, as well as the risk of encountering unauthorized drug plantations that can be deadly.

Nevertheless, Death Valley attracts tourists with its unusual, cosmic landscapes: salt marshes, canyons, clay deserts, and colored mountains. The most impressive locations are Zabriskie Point, Badwater Basin, and Mosaic Canyon.

The Royal Trail of El Caminito del Rey, Spain

The Royal Trail, known as the Death Trail, is located in Spain, in the province of Malaga. This extreme route was created as an auxiliary road for workers building a reservoir, but over time it began to deteriorate and became deadly for tourists.

After numerous accidents, the authorities closed the route in 2001 and reopened it in 2015, providing it with handrails and fences. The route is 7.7 km long, and even now it remains a serious challenge.

It offers incredible views of deep gorges, cliffs, the Gaitanejo Reservoir, and the green Hoyo Valley, making it especially attractive to thrill-seekers.

Devil's Pool, Zambia

This natural pool is located on the very edge of Victoria Falls and is a favorite place for daredevils who want to see the waterfall in all its glory. However, swimming here is risky: there are cases when the Zambezi River has claimed the lives of desperate people who were fond of extreme photos at the very edge of the falls.

To get to the Devil's Pool, you need to cross the Zambezi River from Livingstone Island and cross territories inhabited by aggressive crocodiles and hippos. All these dangers attract the most daring tourists, and the views of the majestic waterfall shrouded in a rainbow, are memorable for a lifetime.

Anak Krakatoa volcano, Indonesia

Anak Krakatoa is an active volcanic island that emerged after the devastating eruption of the Krakatoa volcano in 1883. This is one of the most dangerous places in the world, as the volcano is constantly erupting, releasing lava, rocks, and toxic gases.

Since its formation, the volcano has repeatedly caused serious disasters, but this does not stop tourists. Today, excursions to Anak Krakatoa are organized, and camping is even allowed on the island's black beaches when the volcano is calm.

The Blue Hole, Egypt

The Blue Hole near Dahab is an underwater cave more than 120 meters deep that is one of the most famous dive sites in the world. However, it is also known as the cemetery of divers: more than 150 people died here, mostly due to nitrogen anesthesia and loss of orientation in deep waters.

A natural memorial on the coast is a reminder of the danger this cave conceals. However, for experienced divers, the Blue Hole remains a unique opportunity to see the rich marine life of the Red Sea with corals, parrotfish, barracuda, and moray eels.

Trolltunga, Norway

Trolltunga, or Troll's Tongue, is a stone outcropping on a cliff that rises 700 meters above Lake Ringedalsvatn. This place has no fences, and even strong winds or fog do not scare away tourists who dream of taking unique photos.

The hike to Trolltunga lasts several hours and passes through mountainous terrain where it can snow even in summer. However, the picturesque views, rugged cliffs, clear lakes, and glaciers make this trip unforgettable for anyone who dares to climb this ledge.
