US election
The US presidential election will take place on November 5 this year. At first, it was assumed that the current head of state, Joe Biden, would once again become the Democratic candidate. However, after an unsuccessful debate with his Republican opponent Donald Trump and pressure from Democrats and his inner circle, Biden decided to withdraw from the election campaign.
He proposed US Vice President Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate. According to media reports, the Democrats will nominate Harris for the presidency at the party convention in August. The Democratic candidate will be elected by August 7 through online voting, and the Democratic convention itself will be a mere formality.
Meanwhile, a debate between Trump and Biden was scheduled for September 10 on ABC News. But after the latter's withdrawal from the race, Trump called for the next debate to be held on Fox News, a channel close to him. The former US president said he was ready to meet with Harris more than once. The vice president said she was ready for a debate but has not yet responded to Trump's idea.
