Grease often builds up unnoticed on kitchen cabinets, especially around the stove. These simple household methods can help clean the surfaces without hours of exhausting scrubbing.
RBC-Ukraine explains how to quickly remove grease from kitchen cabinets using simple products you likely already have at home.
Hot water + dish soap
This is the simplest option for fresh or relatively recent grease.
Add a few drops of dish soap to warm water. Soak a soft sponge, wring it out well and wipe the cabinet fronts.
If the residue is already sticky, leave the solution on the surface for a few minutes, then wipe it with a clean damp sponge. Afterward, make sure to wipe the cabinet dry.
Baking soda
For more stubborn stains, you can make a thick paste from baking soda and a small amount of water.
Apply it to the greasy spot, but do not scrub immediately. Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes, then gently remove it with a soft sponge.
Important: test the method on an inconspicuous area first. Abrasive baking soda can damage some glossy and delicate finishes.
Vinegar for certain surfaces
A mixture of water and white vinegar can help remove greasy residue, particularly from durable surfaces.
Mix them in roughly equal proportions, apply the solution to a sponge rather than directly to the cabinet, and wipe the dirty area.
Do not use vinegar on natural stone or acid-sensitive finishes.
Steam
If the grease is old and hardened, it should first be softened.
Hot steam can help. Hold the steam nozzle a short distance from the dirty area, then immediately wipe away the softened grease with a soft cloth.
Before using this method, make sure the cabinet material can withstand moisture and heat.
Melamine sponge
It can be used for stubborn marks on durable surfaces, but with great care.
A melamine sponge works as a micro-abrasive, so on glossy, lacquered, or delicate finishes it can leave dull spots or scratches.
Test it on an inconspicuous area first and do not apply strong pressure.
A little secret
Grease is easiest to remove when you do not try to wipe it off while it is dry.
First soften the residue with warm water or a suitable cleaning product, let it work for a few minutes, and only then wipe the surface.
This makes cleaning much faster and reduces the risk of damaging the cabinet fronts.
