Old cleaning products that can be found in almost every home remain effective for fighting dirt and stains, despite the emergence of modern household chemicals. Ordinary, time-tested products often work just as well as expensive chemicals, reports the website Better Homes & Gardens.

Using vinegar

Its acidity effectively breaks down grease, removes mold, neutralizes odors, and dissolves limescale. Vinegar is one of the most effective cleaning agents.

To clean a refrigerator, mix equal parts vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and use it to treat stubborn stains on shelves and walls. Simply spray, wait a minute, and then wipe dry.

Vinegar can also tackle stubborn food stains inside the microwave. Simply place a bowl of water in the microwave and heat it for three to four minutes to soften any residue.

Dishwashers get dirty and require regular maintenance. You should clean your dishwasher at least once a month by pouring two cups of vinegar into a container, placing it upright on the bottom rack, and running a normal cycle with the drying mode turned off. After the cycle finishes, sprinkle one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the appliance and run a hot water cycle.

Baking soda paste

Baking soda is known for its gentle yet effective cleaning action. It can clean surfaces without damaging the finish. Additionally, it naturally deodorizes, eliminating the need for artificial fragrances.

It has been and remains an essential household item. It is perfect for removing stubborn deposits on bathtubs, sinks, and stoves. Just add a little water to form a paste and scrub.

Moreover, baking soda can be the secret ingredient for a sparkling oven. You can add half a cup of baking soda to a bowl with three tablespoons of water, stirring until a paste forms.

Spread the mixture all over the inside of the oven and leave it for 20 minutes. Finally, wipe it off with a wet cloth.

Disinfect with bleach

Bleach is a versatile household cleaning agent for cleaning, whitening, and disinfecting surfaces.

In most cases, it is a solution based on:

  • Sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach) – the most common option;
  • Oxygen compounds (gentler bleaches).

Bleach performs several functions at once:

  • Disinfection – kills bacteria, fungi, and viruses;
  • Dirt removal – grease, stains, limescale, organic contaminants;
  • Whitening – laundry, fabrics, and sometimes surfaces.

Where it is used:

  • Plumbing (sinks, toilets);
  • Tiles, floors;
  • Kitchen surfaces;
  • Laundry (white items);
  • Cleaning equipment.
