3 supplements to take for younger and firmer skin
Certified nutritionist Jennifer Hanway shared three supplements for firm skin that she recommends for people over 30, citing Mind Body Green.
Why skin becomes less firm
Amino acids
After the age of 20, collagen production slows down, and collagen is what provides structure to the skin, muscles, bones, and connective tissue.
People can increase collagen production by ensuring they get enough amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
So, if we are only eating the minimal or even sufficient amount of protein, the body cannot provide these additional amino acids to our skin, hair, or nails to maintain their healthy appearance.
Hanway advises consuming one to two grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.
"For most women, 100 to 120 grams is a really good starting point," the nutritionist said.
Omega-3
As people age, their skin barrier weakens. Stress, active sun exposure, and air pollution all contribute to this.
Eating nutrient-rich food is an important thing you can do to slow down the aging process.
It is very important to consume omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in certain fish, some plant oils, and nuts, to combat inflammation.
The expert also said that omega-3 fatty acids benefit not only your skin but also your brain. Many people fear fat, but it is very important and very good for you
Studies have shown that taking omega-3 supplements can help balance the skin's inflammatory response.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
CoQ10 is an antioxidant naturally produced by the body and it supports cell growth and maintenance. It protects fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elastic fibers that contribute to youthful skin. It has been shown that taking CoQ10 reduces wrinkles and improves skin smoothness.
