Weight and hormones are closely interconnected concepts. A woman's hormonal balance constantly fluctuates depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle, time of day, age, and mood, according to nutritionist Natalia Samoilenko.

Which hormones are important for healthy weight

Thyroid gland

The number one hormones are those produced by the thyroid gland. They perform the most crucial functions in regulating metabolism.

How easily one loses weight depends on how actively the body produces thyroid hormones.

When thyroid activity increases, people lose weight, and their weight decreases. However, undesirable symptoms may also appear, such as irritability, and overall, increased thyroid activity can indicate various health issues.

Insulin

Insulin is a very powerful hormone that plays a vital role in regulating metabolic processes, especially carbohydrate metabolism, as it helps transport glucose into cells.

In addition, it can communicate with fat cells and has anabolic effects on adipocytes.

A large release of this hormone influences the development of metabolic syndrome. An increase in insulin levels, triggered by consuming sweet foods, leads to fat accumulation by slowing down fat breakdown and accelerating fat synthesis.

Sweet foods increase insulin production, and by consuming sweet foods, we stimulate an even greater need for fats.

Cortisol

This is the stress hormone, and it affects the location of fat cells.

Cortisol helps accumulate weight in the central part of the body, leading to a "cortisol belly," where excess fat accumulates viscerally around the organs, creating an unappealing layer of fat. This also significantly disrupts overall health.

Moreover, people often respond to stress by craving something sweet, and consuming sweets disrupts the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, leading to weight gain.
