The 2026 Winter Olympic Games will take place in Italy from February 6 to 22. In Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, athletes from around the world will compete for 116 sets of medals across 16 sports.
RBC-Ukraine reports where and when to watch all finals and medal events.
Where and when the Games will take place
The official start will be on February 6 at Milan’s San Siro arena, while the closing ceremony will be held in Verona.
In addition to the main host cities, six more locations will host Olympic events: Antholz, Livigno, Bormio, Predazzo, Tesero, and Verona.
Interestingly, the logistics of the Games will be challenging: the maximum distance between venues (Milan – Antholz) is 361 km.
The program features 16 sports, including biathlon, hockey, figure skating, alpine skiing, and a debut discipline – ski mountaineering. Overall, around 3,000 athletes from 85 countries are expected to participate.
Ukrainian representation and sanctions against aggressors
Ukraine has already secured 46 quotas across 11 sports, but the final composition of the "blue and yellow" delegation will be determined on January 18, after all qualification tournaments are completed.
At the same time, the International Olympic Committee has upheld the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian Olympic Committees due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Athletes from these countries will only be able to compete in individual events under a neutral status — without the use of national symbols, flags, or anthems.
