12th EU sanctions package against Russia's "Rosatom", insists Lithuanian President
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda urged the European Union to consider another package of sanctions against Russia, explicitly targeting the Russian nuclear energy corporation "Rosatom", according to the Lithuanian President's Office.
"To ensure the effectiveness of sanctions, we call for avoiding exceptions that create new ways to circumvent them," Nauseda stated during a meeting with EU ambassadors, urging them to start thinking about the 12th EU sanctions package and include "Rosatom" in it.
Furthermore, Nauseda called on EU countries to seek the establishment of an international tribunal to investigate the crime of Russian aggression and to utilize frozen Russian assets in EU countries for Ukraine's reconstruction after the war.
The Lithuanian leader also informed EU ambassadors of Lithuania's support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.
"We will send a positive signal to Ukraine by starting negotiations on its EU membership this year," Nauseda said, adding that Moldova's efforts in implementing reforms also deserve a positive assessment.
Sanctions against Russia
EU ambassadors recently approved the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. The package includes measures aimed at countering sanctions evasion and individual listings.
Moreover, the new sanctions package will include the oil transportation ban.
