Secrets of longevity of a 100-year-old American woman
JoCleta said that she had retired three times.
"I had to leave home, go back to work, and see what was going on in society," she said.
Wilson is now the longest-serving employee at Home Depot in the United States, a role she says is "a lot of fun." But beyond working in retail, she recently shared some other secrets to her longevity.
Socialize as much as possible
One of the reasons Wilson took a job at Home Depot at the age of 98 was for socialization. She wanted to talk to people.
In fact, when she turned 100, she threw a birthday party with 80 guests at her home, complete with two pianists. Now she works in the store twice a week from 6 to 10 am.
Dance
Wilson has been dancing all her life. She has traveled the world and has always been dancing. Her dance training also taught her the importance of good posture, which she often checks by standing against a wall.
Be creative
Dance is not Wilson's only creative activity. At the age of 90, she bought a piano and taught herself to play. A few years later, she took to the stage to perform at a local theater.
Eat right
An American woman has been diagnosed with cancer. For these reasons, she is trying to eat as healthy as possible. One way she does this is by limiting her sugar intake. She admits that it takes a lot of self-control, but she does indulge in a treat from time to time. According to her, she always has chocolate cake in the freezer, and sometimes she allows herself a piece.
"I eat well. I don’t eat out a lot. I do my own cooking and enjoy it," she added.
Don't sweat the small stuff
Don't sweat the small stuff is the philosophy she preaches in her life.
"I always say, don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t worry. Don’t let everything make you angry. Anger takes a lot of muscle and a lot of good out of your life. It’s so much easier to think positive than to think negative. It takes a lot less effort. And that’s what I try to do.," the centenarian summarized.
