This year, Czechia has supplied Ukrainian forces with 1.8 million rounds of ammunition, according to Former Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on X.
Fiala recalled that he had promised to deliver 1.8 million heavy-caliber rounds to Ukrainian defenders this year.
"I am glad to confirm that we have fulfilled this goal today," said the former Czech prime minister, recently succeeded by Andrej Babiš.
Czech support for Ukraine amid new government
Earlier, on October 3–4, elections were held for the lower house of the Czech Parliament – the Chamber of Deputies. With over 97% of votes counted, the ANO party led by ex-premier Andrej Babiš won.
Babiš had previously criticized the Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine and stated that it should be canceled.
However, Czech President Petr Pavel believes the country cannot halt its ammunition support for Ukraine, warning that doing so would have serious consequences. He said that canceling the initiative would primarily harm Czechia and could lead to more casualties in Ukraine.
On October 8, Babiš made a headline-grabbing statement, pledging "not to give Ukraine a single koruna for weapons." The next day, he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who briefed him on Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts toward a just peace alongside the US, Europe, and other countries, as well as the broader diplomatic situation.
On December 9, Czech President Petr Pavel appointed Babiš as the new prime minister. He urged the new government not to roll back support for Ukraine, emphasizing that this is crucial both for Czech security and for the country’s future economic prospects.
