Russia is preparing for a prisoner exchange with Ukraine in the 1,000 for 1,000 format. In particular, the Kremlin has already prepared and submitted a list of names, states Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in a comment to Interfax.

"We have indeed submitted our list (of names for the prisoner exchange - ed.)," he said.

At the same time, Peskov claimed that Ukraine has not yet provided its list of names to Russia. Moscow is already "waiting" for it.

Preparation for prisoner exchange

Ukraine and Russia agreed on a 1,000 for 1,000 prisoner exchange during negotiations in Istanbul that took place last week.

On May 17, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, stated that such an exchange could take place as early as this week. He noted that work on the list of names was already underway at that time.

Meanwhile, today, on May 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting regarding the possible large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia.

The head of state said that Ukraine has already received a list of names from the Russian side.

Notably, Peskov also stated today that Russia is interested in carrying out the exchange as quickly as possible.
