A shooting occurred in the so-called parliament of Russia-occupied Abkhazia. One deputy was wounded and another killed, Ekho Kavkaza reports.
According to the source, an investigative team arrived at the scene.
Preliminary information says that the deputy Kan Kwarchiya was injured. Another deputy Vakhtang Golandzia died from his injuries.
The local telegram channel AMRA-life writes that the so-called parliament was discussing a bill to ban cryptocurrency mining.
“During the meeting, Adgur Kharazia and Kan Kvarchia got into an altercation, as a result, Adgur pulled out a gun and began shooting at Kan. The deceased Vakhtang Golandzia tried to separate them,” the newspaper reports.
Russia occupied Abkhazia in the early 1990s and deployed its military bases there. Since then, this part of Georgia has fallen into economic decline.
In December, the residents of Abkhazia had their electricity cut off. This happened after the Inguri hydroelectric power plant was shut down due to a lack of water, and Russia refused to supply electricity, allegedly because of debts.
In November, the so-called president of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, was deposed. He was forced to resign after protests erupted in Sukhumi over an agreement that allowed Russia to gain full control over the territory's resources.
