$5,000 for every American: Trump makes major promise if Republicans win midterms

US President Donald Trump has promised to pay every American adult $5,000 if the Republican Party retains control of Congress after the midterm elections in November, Reuters reports.
According to the US president, the payment will be called the "Trump dividend." He presented it as a kind of reward for citizens for the United States' economic success.
"If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000," Trump said.
At the same time, it remains unclear how exactly such payments could be made and whether their introduction would be legal. Implementing the proposal would likely require a decision by Congress.
The media outlet notes that around 270 million adults live in the United States. Therefore, the potential cost of such a program could amount to around $1.35 trillion.
Trump also said that the money must be spent in the United States.
Reuters notes that the US president is seeing increasingly low approval among Americans. Many are angry with him over unresolved economic and domestic problems, while Trump's focus is on the war in Iran and other international issues.
The White House has begun preparing for the possibility that the Republican Party will lose the US congressional midterm elections this fall.
The US congressional elections will take place on Tuesday, November 3.
