Three trucks carrying humanitarian aid sent by Pope Leo XIV are set to arrive in Ukraine. The shipment includes 100,000 portions of instant soup intended for the civilian population, according to Vatican News.

In a report on the Holy See’s Christmas humanitarian initiatives, it is noted that the aid is intended for regions most affected by hostilities and disruptions to electricity, water, and heating supplies.

The Vatican stressed that the initiative forms part of broader support for people suffering from war and forced displacement.

Ahead of Christmas, three trucks carrying instant soups of various flavors arrived at the Vatican. The products were provided by a South Korean company that has previously supported the Holy See’s humanitarian projects.

The Pontiff decided to send the aid to Ukraine, particularly to communities in active combat zones where people have been left without basic living conditions.

"The Pope is not only praying for peace, but also seeks to stand close to families who are suffering," Vatican News said.

Pope Leo XIV and Ukraine

Earlier, in his traditional Christmas message on December 25, Pope Leo XIV called for peace for the victims of all wars and expressed hope that Ukraine and Russia would "find the courage for direct dialogue."

The Pontiff has also said he is ready to visit Ukraine, though security concerns remain. The Vatican has already developed an organizational plan that would allow such a visit to take place.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that in early December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid an official visit to Rome. The trip included a closed-door meeting with Pope Leo XIV that lasted about 30 minutes. The Holy Father received the Ukrainian leader at his residence in Castel Gandolfo.
